One of the organizations wherein their heritage was maintained was Emanuel Lutheran Church. A strong bond of fellowship was formed, and many of the Scandinavian traditions were preserved. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn 1941 a group of women of this church (The West Hardford Ladies Aid Society) edited and published Swedish Smorgasbord and 500 Other Famous Recipes. It was and still is a very popular cookbook, in which many of the ethnic recipes are to be found. The demand to update and re-publish this cookbook has been great enough that another committee was formed to review, rewrite and publish a new book. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe committee has preserved many of the recipes from the original cookbook, which are marked with a star. Where there have been several recipes with minor variations, one main recipe is given with the variations listed.
